String of Pearls was the top local band in the year 2001 "Best of" readers poll held by the Palo Alto Weekly. The citation read: "For more than a decade, swingmasters String of Pearls have entertained locals at just about every venue you can imagine--wedding receptions, big parties, even concerts in the park. . . . The Conways . . . offer a fresh take on big band and swing." (Palo Alto Weekly, August 22, 2001)

Voted "Best Local Band" by Palo Alto Weekly reeaders The Palo Alto Weekly annually surveys readers' opinion on the area's "best" restaurants, shops, destinations, and services. The String of Pearls band has been recommended and accepted for inclusion in the forthcoming Bay Area edition of the prestigious "By Recommendation Only" Party & Wedding Resource Guide. String of Pearls, Don Conway’s swing and jazz band, recently returned from a three-city performing tour (Feb. 9-28, 2002 in China. This was the group's third "Friendship Tour" to the world's most populous nation.

String of Pearls represented the American swing tradition, mainstream jazz, and sophisticated songs from Tin Pan Alley to Broadway.

"Totally Swing!" String of Pearls's second album, was released in April 2000. It contains 14 danceable selections--big band-style instrumentals from jump jive to slow groove, plus swingin' vocals. Click here (Totally Swing!) for details.
